The cosmetology instructors at MTI bring real-world experience to the classroom and The Salon, training through hands-on instruction and one-on-one interaction to help students develop essential cosmetology skills.
In MTI’s cosmetology schools, you’ll learn how to:
- Cut, style, & color all types of hair
- Perform manicures, pedicures, & apply artificial nails
- Provide basic skincare services such as skin analysis, hair removal, facials, & facial makeup
- Fulfill various administrative and customer relation duties associated with managing a salon
Graduates of MTI’s Cosmetology Program will be prepared with the skills required to work in a variety of settings, such as salons, spas, hotels, and resorts. Cosmetologists may also lease booth space from salon owners, manage salons, or open their own business, typically after several years of experience. Cosmetology graduates can also pursue a career as a makeup artist or nail technician.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median hourly wage for cosmetologists in May 2020 was approximately $15.61. The highest 10 percent of cosmetology professionals earned more than $30.51. Many cosmetologists receive tips from their customers, high-quality work and exceptional customer service are frequently attributed to increased tip totals.

Cosmetologists work mostly in a salon, although some work in a spa, hotel, or resort. Some lease booth space from a salon owner, others manage salons or open their own shop after several years of experience.

Cosmetology Careers
Cosmetologists provide hair, nail, skin and beauty services to clients. As cosmetologists become more experienced and gain clientele, they may find themselves managing a salon or deciding to open their own. Others become sales representatives or image consultants.
