MTI Provided Hair, Makeup & Nail/Toe Polish Services to High Schoolers
Quad Cities (Moline), IL– Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) partnered with nonprofit organization iJAG to provide cosmetology services to deserving high schoolers. This initiative aims to give young women the prom night of their dreams by providing beauty services, including free prom hair, makeup and toenail or fingernail polish.
iJAG is a non-profit organization that provides dropout prevention and school-to-career solutions and serves 2,800 students per year within 17 communities across the state of Iowa and Illinois. Several students from the iJAG Program at Davenport West High School and Davenport North High School in Davenport, Iowa received prom beauty services from the Cosmetology Program at MTI’s Quad Cities (Moline), IL campus.
MTI Cosmetology Program students provided these high schoolers with prom hair and makeup services free of charge. MTI’s School of Cosmetology houses a Student Salon, where students gain the real-world experience required to complete the Cosmetology Program and to get their state licensing in order to gain entry-level employment in the cosmetology field after graduation. All services are performed by students under the supervision of a licensed instructor.
Nicole O’Brien, Cosmetology Instructor and Program Director at MTI, shared her experience working with the high schoolers to create prom looks:
“It was an honor to work with these young ladies to help them have a memorable prom night experience. We all deserve to feel confident and beautiful, and I’m so glad we were able to help these students have that feeling.”
Ellen Bassler, High School Admissions Representative at MTI, shared a moment from the experience:
“I was so proud to be a part of this initiative, and of our MTI Cosmetology Program students for working together as a team to provide these ladies makeup, hair and polish for prom. They really enjoyed the experience. Our goal was to give these students a senior prom they will never forget!”
Davenport West student Quintionna Burrage expressed gratitude for everyone who helped with the experience:
“I love it! Thank you for doing this for me.”
