Continuing Education

10 Weeks/250 Clock Hours/50 Outside Clock Hours

 

The Journeyman Welder pipefitting continuing education course is offered to those who have successfully completed the MTI 30 week welding course and passed the pipefitting entrance exam OR have previous construction experience and pass the pipefitting entrance exam.  An interview with the pipefitting instructor or his designee is required prior to admission.

 

Basic Pipe Fitting

25 clock hours/lecture/100 lab/4.5 credits/25 additional outside clock hours

1. Reading ISO Drawings.

2. 45-degree offsets.

3. Introduce T’s and takeoffs.

4. 30-& 60-degree offsets.

5. Finding unknown angles.

 

Shop goals are proper rigging and pipe hanger installation. Pulling measurements for pipe runs. Measuring and fabricating 45 degree offsets. Increase difficulty of pipe runs and fabricating 30 degree 60 degree offsets.

 

 

Advanced Pipe Fitting

25 clock hours/lecture/100 lab/4.5 credits/25 additional outside clock hours

1. More difficult ISO’s.

2. Explain rolling offsets.

3. Fabricate odd-angled fittings.

4. Course Review.

5. Course Final.

 

Shop goals are to Fabricate and Weld saddles.  Run pipe A to B economically.  Make multiple pipe runs at various angles and review of all pipe applications.

 

This course is offered as continuing education/professional development course only.  Students completing this courses will not receive any credit which can be used toward other certificate or degree programs offered by MTI.  The course, while it may be a dissected piece of the curriculum, is not reviewed by the ACCSC as full courses are.
